A Feasibility Study of Using Physic Nut Oil to Substitute Diesel (in Thai)
The energy crisis drives the attempts to seek alternative energy sources. This paper evaluates an economic feasibility of physic nut (Jatropha curcas) seeds and oil production to substitute diesel oil used in farm machineries at Ban Klongplalai village, Chainat province. The source of data is a pilot project of the allocation of suitable land in the village for physic nut production. Cost-benefit analysis is applied using interview data from the study area. The study site has suitable but limited areas for physic nut expansion. Analyzes of base case (diesel price at 25.69 baht/l) and sensitivity case (diesel price at 35 baht/l) showed economically infeasible results if the opportunity costs of labor were factored.
